G is for GRAD

I see so many cards for older graduates, but I wanted to make one for a kindergartener. The giraffe with his glasses on just made sense to use... Doesn't he look smart? LOL
Everything except the letter stickers and the star punch  came from the DCWV Alpha Zoo stack. To make this card I put together my background, cut out around the giraffe clipart, added my sentiment and the star and that's it!
I really love all the animals that come in this stack! They are just so cute! In case you missed my hippo card I made using this stack, it can be found here.

You're worth more than gold

The end of the school year is fast approaching and I wanted to make a gift for one of my son's teachers. This teacher made a big impact on him and really changed him for the better. Teachers like that are so important! I decided to make him a treasure type box using the DCWV Gilded stack. With all the gold in this stack, I already had an idea of what I wanted the end result to look like.

First, I started with a latch box I picked up on clearance at Hobby Lobby one day. This is what it looked like when I bought it. A little beat up, but I didn't let that stop me! LOL!

The inside was in great shape at least!

I cut out a couple of different patterns for the outside of the box. I adhered them using Sookwang tape. I had never tried this kind of adhesive before, but I was greatly impressed with it's strength!

Next, I picked out a saying from the stack and cut it out:

I then scored the edges just a quarter inch on the top and bottom side of the saying.

I adhered the scored edges to the inside of the lid of my treasure box... (Also, you can see in this picture that I added some straps around the outside of the box to give it more texture and make it look more like a treasure box.)

Next, I filled it with gold candy! Yum!

Here is another closer look...

I added a note to the teacher and put that inside the box as well. It said, "What you taught my son was priceless. You are worth more than GOLD to me!"

I love turning things that may seem like they have seen their last day into something beautiful and useful. Hope you liked this fun teacher gift idea and that it inspired you somehow!

Favorite NSD layouts

I had so many things that I wanted to get done on National Scrapbooking Day and didn't quite get to them all, but I did make a couple of new fun pages! The first one is using a sketch from the Creative Scrappers blog:
I tilted my layout to go the opposite way...
I also used this for the Echo Park Challenge #3... to scrap about a holiday.

For my next layout, I used this cute page by Kandis Smith as my inspiration:
And here is mine:
I made this for Echo Park Challenge #2, to take inspiration from one of their DT members and make your own layout with it. I loved this since I am always so inspired by other people!

Hope you were able to accomplish some of your own pages on NSD and that you had a great weekend!

Winter page in May

I used the Limoncello stack by DCWV for this winter layout. It is not traditionally a winter stack, but that is what is great about many of the DCWV stacks, they can be used for many different themes and occasions!
And here is my layout:
I punched out some of the circles on the patterned paper in this stack and used them with the snowflakes to create a background flurry. :)

I used this sketch from the Scrapping with Christine blog for my inspiration:

May Stackaholic Challenges

The May Stackaholic Challenges are up on the DCWV blog today and they are great ones!

Here is the layout sketch:

And the card sketch:

I had fun with these! For my layout, I used the Sweet Tangerine stack. This stack has beautiful patterns and just love it!
I used a couple of different patterned paper sheets to make my background, cut out some pieces to make my banner, added a title and a border and it was as simple as that! This is one of my favorite pictures of my daughter. She makes me smile every day. :)

For my card, I wanted to use some of the buttons from the sketch, so what better stack to use than the Vintage Collector stack? I will never get tired of this stack! It is full of my favorite color combinations!
I cut out some buttons on my Silhouette and added some twine for a fun look. Next, I adhered my buttons to a piece of burlap from the Burlap stack. The card base is part of the Vintage Collector line as well. I really love how this card turned out.

Sketches are a fun way to get your creative juices flowing. I hope you will find time to play along with the sketch challenges this month. Entries are due on May 30th. For more info go to the DCWV blog by clicking here.
